Make Believe

Sparkle of Make-Believe

The Guild Players maintained their Christmas tradition of a play especially for children with A.A. Milne’s captivating Make-Believe, presented in The Kilshawe Theatre, Deal, last week. It was an ideal choice for a young audience.
The Guild Players’ chairman Alex Thomson, who found the pure delight of Milne exactly, directed this. The production had the purity of youthful innocence and all the joy of Christmas with just a little touch of Dickensian gloom to be dispelled by the joy of giving. This was a simple and happy little production and, I am sure, as pleasing for the adults as it was for the youngsters. The play had a number of children in its cast and I am always pleased to see them given the chance to perform on stage with adults. They came from Deal Secondary School and St. Edmund’s RC School, Dover and were all jolly good. They were Michael Bennett, Cy Lamoon, Pauline Newman, Justine Sewell, Andrea Sims, Robert Sykes, Paul Taylor & Natalie Wallace. The players enlisted the aid of Audra Lamoon and Cameron Stenhouse from The Deal Dramatic Society and their efforts were unstinting. The Guild Players on stage were Gordon Crier, Glenys Cresswell, Wyn Fright, Chris Johnstone, Jessica Robinson, Natalie Sparman, Christopher Sewell, Alex Thomson, Nick Tigwell, Sue Watson, Stephanie Walmsley, Peter Woods and Donald Wynn. Joan Passey was the Musical Director and pianist and brought a particular joy to Georges Dorley’s lilting music. Kath Fox as the storyteller enhanced Make-Believe, and the scenery and costumes all added to the making of a very pleasurable evening out.
