Listen to the Wind

Cast of Listen to the Wind

Youngsters Steal Show

The fantasy Listen to the Wind provided an opportunity for The Guild Players cast to present an outstanding Christmas production. The children shone and the main characters Emily Allison, Jo and Max Chamberlain were outstanding. Shirley Magner played the governess Miss. Lush with charm, the grandmother played by Jo Carnell was splendid and Gill Watson as the naughty gale bird and Sue Watson’s sea witch were in fine voice and played their parts well. Nathan Sewell as black thunder cloud and his two helpers Ben Harris and Justin Brown were well cast. So was Darren Bowley as the king, Stephanie Walmsley as the queen, Paul Payne as the prince and Carol Laurence as the princess. The fight scene between the rogue wind and the prince was great and Charles Bailey and Dot Smith were sinister in their roles. Four changes of set kept the stage manager and her backstage crew busy and Nick Tigwell’s lighting gave atmosphere to the storm and sea scenes. Christine Eyden and Phyllis Gray produced the show and the director Christopher Sewell also acted the good butler with his usual charm. Vivian Ellis provided beautiful music and Claire Middleton, the pianist, was to be congratulated on the skill she showed with the large musical numbers. Also in the cast were Susan Stead, Polly Allison, Catherine Brooke, Janine and Jemma Clancy and Beth Hyde, with Evan Davies and Jamie Wilton playing their non‑speaking roles exceptionally well.
