Merrie England

Cast of Merrie England

Queen Bess returns to Deal castle on Monday when Phyllis Gray plays the part in a version of Merrie England, to be presented on the ramparts of Deal Castle. David Warwick has an orchestra of quality, and with some of the finest singers from Deal and district has recorded the musical side. The greatly experienced Tony Kilshawe has assembled the cast.

Weather Delays Queen Bess
The weather being as it is no respecter of persons or otherwise, good Queen Bess will be making a delayed return next Monday. It id hoped to present Merrie England on subsequent Monday evenings until the end of August.

Third Time Lucky!
At last the rain stopped – although it did keep everyone in suspense until 7:30pm – and so at the 3rd attempt Tony Kilshawe’s presentation of Merrie England got underway. This light opera by Edward German and Basil Hood had the ideal fairyland setting of Deal Castle, and at once the audience were transported back in history to the Elizabethan age.
