The Vigil

The Vigil in Church Setting

The Church of St. George the Martyr, Deal, lent itself beautifully to The Guild Players latest production – The Vigil – a dramaticEaster play by Ladislas Fodor. The play, which began on Monday April 8th, and ends tomorrow (Thursday) takes the form of a trial in a court of law. The case is that of the State against a gardener, Yahuda Jacobson, who is accused of stealing the body of Christ, burying it in an unmarked grave and then masquerading as the risen Christ. The play is filled with drama and many people give evidence from Esther Rubens, a farmhand to Mary Magdalene, whom the prosecution interrogates so fiercely as to reduce her to tears. This very unusual play was quite successful with a cast of very competent actors. The audience were addressed as Ladies and Gentleman of the Jury.
